WHO declares monkeypox a global health emergency.

The World Health Organization declared the Monkeypox epidemic. It has been spreading around the globe.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director General, made the declaration despite the fact that a committee of experts had not advised him.

The same committee met one month ago, and did not declare a health emergency.

A survey of members showed that nine voted against declaring a PHEIC and six favored it.

The group met in June and the breakdown was eleven against and three for.

Tedros stated that "Nine and six are very, very close" during a press conference to announce his decision.

He said, "Since I was to advise, I had to then act as a tiebreaker."
