The Islamic New Year named after migration of Prophet Muhammad and his companions in 622 CE from Mecca to Medina.

The Prophet Muhammad returned to Mecca with his Companions in 629 CE after the conquest of the Mecca.

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar.

The New Year begins at sunset every year after 29th or 30th of the previous month.

The Islamic lunar calendar is 10 or 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar.

Muharram is considered as the holiest month along with the month of Dhuʻl-Qiʻdah, Dhuʻl-Hijjah and Rajab.

Month of Muharram starts just after the month of Dhul al-Hijjah, which is the month when Muslims go for holy travel (Pilgrimage)
